Inglenook Marketplace is a home decor, gifts, and accessories brand that embodies the hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga") lifestyle. The Danish lifestyle concept encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment, and overall well-being through enjoying the simple things in life such as a cozy blanket or warm candlelight. The word Inglenook is considered to be one of the most beautiful words in the English language. Many people ask us what an Inglenook is. Simply put, it’s the hearth of the home; a place for family and friends to gather and stay warm. It is quite literally a fireplace that you can sit inside! Our brand’s mission is to bring quality service & cozy goods, that embody warmth while remaining true to our fun-loving and quirky nature. 

Inglenook Marketplace was founded in 2014 and started as an e-commerce home decor website. After several years in the design industry, our founder, Heatherlyn Nelson, wanted to grow the brand and evolve into more than just an e-commerce site. While building her reputation in the female-founder world, Heatherlyn joined forces with The Female Founder Collective to help expand her reach as an entrepreneur. Following her life-long dream of owning her own shop, Heatherlyn took the leap and opened Inglenook Marketplace's first brick and mortar in The Hudson Valley. Since opening our storefront, we’ve grown our signature candle & fragrance line, along with our online & shipping operations. We've grown so quickly in the last few years that we need more space, again! 

Creating and supplying inspiring home designs, cozy and quality fragrances, and beautiful products are integral to who we are as a company. As an Inglenook Marketplace Retail & Special Projects Assistant, you will not just be another person behind the counter. This position is so much more than just a retail associate. This role is about creating a space for people to feel welcome and invited, by being knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to our branded products, and always having our brand in mind when speaking to others. Many of our customers have become loyal to our brand because they feel like our shop is a warm hug, and the person that fills this role will be an integral part of that experience. 

The right person for this position will flex between supporting the front of house and back of house operations. You will leave your ego at the door as this position requires kindness, honesty, and flexibility at all times. This will include helping customers on the floor, being a cashier, updating our website, executing social media content, updating our shop displays per pre-approved layout, making candles and room sprays, and packing/shipping online orders. You are willing to assist in other areas of business that may not pertain to the shops, in order to help management stay organized and on-task with growing the brand. You have exceptional customer service skills and an eye for detail. You are capable of working autonomously but are willing to be a team player. You have a roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic. You are creative, kind, motivated, efficient, flexible, and you love working to make our brand engaging, inviting, and successful! 


Operational Excellence

  • Adhere to all sales and operational policies and procedures that are maintained with a focus on excellence.

  • Accurately process all POS transactions and capture of customer information.

  • Have a proper understanding of our Square POS system, are comfortable working in Gmail, G-Suite, a variety of social media platforms (Instagram, FB, Pinterest, Twitter, etc.), and Slack for internal communications.

  • Stay up to date on design & home decor trends for retail. 

  • Willing to learn and work within our e-commerce site, BigCommerce. 

  • Create content during your shift: taking photos for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Be comfortable writing short descriptions for products and tagging products as needed. 

  • Assist with store maintenance/cleaning/seasonal decor turn-over, as needed.  

  • Protect our assets by adhering to all loss prevention policies and procedures.

  • Being a brand ambassador for our shop and our products on social media.

Customer Experience

  • Greet and connect with the customer by offering your help should they have any questions. Always making sure that each customer feels that they have your complete attention while they are shopping. No phone usage is allowed while customers are in the shop. 

  • Ensure a high level of customer service through extensive product knowledge. This is most important with our signature fragrance line of candles, room sprays, etc. 

  • Accurately process all POS transactions including wrapping merchandise, processing returns, applying discounts and promotions, etc.

  • Assist with operational activities beyond the physical shop. This may include marketing, branding, and accounting. 

  • Partner with management to address customer service issues, particularly in the areas of product damages, repairs, exchanges, and any concierge-like needs.

Represent the Brand

  • Understand and communicate the Inglenook Marketplace brand philosophy and lifestyle with our customers.

  • Emulate the brand aesthetic and embody an appreciation for design with an enthusiastic attitude.

  • Contribute to maintaining all brand and operating standards to support brand consistency.

  • Assist in maintaining store presentation standards including replenishment and folding, taking initiative during down-times, and acting with a sense of urgency during peak periods of business.

  • Extensive knowledge of our branded products is a must.



  • 2+ years of experience in a customer-driven retail environment. 

  • Experience with social media, and photography is a plus. 

  • Love & appreciation for home decor, accessories, and gifts are a must.

  • Knowledge of Square, G-Suite, photo editing software is a plus.


  • Must have open availability for a flexible work schedule that meets the needs of the business, including evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts.

  • Must be in a commutable distance to our Beacon, NY location.

  • Currently hiring PT associates for 8 to 24 hours per week. This will vary depending on the season. 

  • Ability to lift (at least 40 lbs), carry, push, pull, squat, kneel, twist, turn, climb ladders, crawl, reach, bend and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to submit relevant required paperwork.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.


  • This is a Part-Time position that pays between $12- $15 an hour, depending on your knowledge and experience. This position has the potential to turn into a full-time position should the needs of this role require additional hours. 
  • This is not a salary position and does not provide health benefits, at this time.
